The Galtaji Temple of Jaipur is a case in point. This temple is one of the pre-historic Hindu pilgrimage sites, located from just 10km away from Jaipur very close to the to the Sisodina Rani ka Bagh on the Agra-Jaipur highway .Jaipur is the regal town as well as the capital of the heritage state of Rajasthan. Every corner of the historic city reflects the triumphs past of vigorous Rajputs. Galtaji is surrounded with natural heritage. This is one of the antique pilgrimage centers having the famed Galtaji Temple passionate of Sun-God. This is not only the popular tourist place of Jaipur, but also a holy place of Rajasthan. This is also very favorite place among local people.

 

History

This temple was constructed by Diwan Rao Kriparam an attendant to Sawai Jai Singh II in the 18th century. This architectural structure is built to dedicate the Sun God, Lord Hanuman and Balaji. This famous tourist spot can be reached by local buses, taxis and cars and the main attraction are the fresh water springs in this location.

 

Legends

It is believed by local people that Saint Galav a great Rishi spent his for 100 years to make his Tapasya for satisfying the God. It is also believed that God became pleased. To provide the honor to this great 'Rishi', a temple was constructed here and it was named after him.

 

Attraction of the temple:

This great temple constructed in gorgeous pink stone which made this more attractive to the tourist. The eastern part of its holy place comprises interesting architecture. The temple has many pavilions with a broad, rounded roof, elegantly carved pillars and a beautifully painted wall. There you can find 7 water tanks which are known as holy 'Kunds' or water tanks. Among these all holy tanks, the 'Galta Kund' is very popular as the holiest one and it is believed to never get completely dry. These Kunds are filled with spring of clean water which come from the 'Gaumukh', a big rock formed like a cow's head. An impressive structure, this magnificent temple is made of pink sandstone, among the low hills, and is built to appear more like a palace or 'haveli' than a traditional temple. The Galta Monkey Temple, one of the best temple of Galtaji Temple has a background of attractive scenic beauty featuring lush green vegetation, and provides a fascinating view of the city of Jaipur. This temple is well known for the many tribes of monkeys which live in the area of the Temple. This area is blended with the amazing natural setting which can offer a peaceful ambience for those people who visits there.
